...Not quite, but definitely a decent looking lawn. After the patchy mess that I left you with in the 'Trial & Error' post the resultant felt like a real achievement.
It was the end of my 2014 gardening season and I had successfully transformed mount grassmore into an almost flat land of green grass. It felt particularly good as this was my first attempt at trying to level a patch of grass using very unofficial means ...and it actually worked.
The final step in finishing the lawn was to pour a few bags of topsoil over the entire lawn, rake in some more grass seed and let the classic British autumn do the rest. Before I knew it I had lush green grass growing all over the gaff and I couldn't be happier. The only downfall was that I had a mini sink hole where I had removed the plants earlier in the year, so I had to re-apply more topsoil and grass seed to that area.
It was also very necessary to trim the bush/tree in the corner as it was getting a bit 70's pornstar, so out came the hedge shears to create some much needed order. I wanted to create more of a boundary/ division between the grass and the base of the tree so used a garden hoe to separate the sections. This made the area look a lot neater and would make mowing the lawn much easier in the future.
That was pretty much it for my first year as 'gardener' who was trying not to be a gardener but kind of loved gardening ...confusing I know. In my head I was still just functionally improving my garden for personal pride but out of nowhere I began to really enjoy it.
So the next time you hear from me we will begin in Spring 2015, my second year of this accidental journey. In true story telling fashion we get a plot twist to make gardening become a little bit more tricky as my girlfriend and I decide to leave London and move to Brighton...
